Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Commissionerate was established in January 2001 under National Board of Revenue (NBR), the apex authority of Government revenue administration. Before that it was working in the name of “Customs Valuation Office” under the supervision of Controller (at the rank of an Additional commissioner) in Chittagong. The then Headquarter was in Chittagong, but when it was started functioning as a separate Commissionerate, the core function was designed for the development of valuation database and other audit related works. Thus, the development wing was established in Dhaka and later on, the development wing changed his character and started functioning as the Head Office of Customs Valuation & Internal Audit Commissionerate and the Chittagong Office designed as Regional Office. The main objectives toward establishing the Customs Valuation & Internal Audit Commissionerate is to work effectively with various issues related to customs valuation as well as internal audit endeavors in this connection.
The Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Commissionerate broadly deals with the following assignments:
To play the coordinators’ role among Custom Houses and Customs Stations and work as the medium in exchanging information related to valuation,
To monitor and enforce the uniformity in valuation process done by various customs offices including basis for prices of commodities,
To audit and examine the correctness of the H.S. Code and valuation process in Bill of Entries and compliance to applicable laws and rules, and
To secure revenue starts post clearance audit (as named as Internal Audit) in importers premises/factories as well.
Nazma Akhtar and Apu Ukil have been re-elected president and general secretary respectively of Jubo Mohila League, the youth women front of the ruling Awami League.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, announced the names at the 2nd national council of the women front held at Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh in Dhaka today.
Founded in 2002, Jubo Mohila League held its first council on March 5, 2004 electing Nazma Akhtar and Apu Ukil as president and general secretary respectively.
Besides names of presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka city’s North and South units were also announced in the council.
Sabina Akhtar Tuhin and Tahera Khatun Lutfa were elected president and general secretary respectively of the Dhaka City North unit while Farida Yasmin Jhuma and Nilufar Yasmin were elected president and
general secretary respectively of Dhaka City South unit.
The establishment of Leading University in Sylhet, a holy place of the country, was indeed a noble idea of a distinguished personality Danobir Dr. Syed Ragib Ali, who is well-known for his philanthropic contributions to educational institutions all over the country. He established many educational institutions at different levels and of different kinds including a medical college-Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet. Dr. Ragib Ali is a pioneer in establishing the first private university-North-South University in Bangladesh. He was the founder Vice-Chairman of North-South University and the Chairman of The University of Asia Pacific and later on he was the Chairman of North-South University. He placed a proposal for establishing Leading University to the Ministry of Education on the 24th of August 1996 and the Ministry issued permission on the 28th of August 2001. Leading University was inaugurated on the 4th of March, 2002 and it commenced its first trimester on that day. The University at first had an enrollment with 106 students in undergraduate programs that was marked a milestone for the university and reasonably a source of inspiration to the persons those are interested in education. Currently the number of enrolled students of this university is around 5000 which is larger than other private universities in this region. Leading University is playing a leading role in providing rationalized and quality education with the support of more than 200 distinguished faculty members from home and aboard. Leading University started its all academic activities in the permanent campus which is located in a very beautiful and green landscape of more than 5 acres of area at Ragibnagar, Kamalbazar which is at the outskirts of Sylhet City. At present, students of all faculties are availing this opportunity to attend classes in two spacious building of nearly 34,000 square feet along with all supportive facilities.
